Flexible Work: Opportunities and Challenges for Managers and Employees

Flexible work is increasingly becoming the norm in our rapidly changing (working) world. Various models based on at least partially self-determined choices of working hours and locations have become established. Many employees, whether in management or other positions, put into practice different models of flexible work or are looking for new, more functional ways to work.

What does flexible work or “New Work” mean in practice?

In addition to the major technological changes, a new understanding of good, meaningful (paid) work, leadership and organizational values is also developing. Demands for a better balance between different areas of life are not only coming from the younger generation.

These concrete changes need to be translated into suitable work structures, the necessary (technical) resources need to be provided and at the same time the skills of employees need to be developed. A culture of lifelong learning can support the necessary transformation processes.

What good framework conditions are needed?

New requirements are emerging for employees and managers: How can teams stay connected and work together successfully despite physical separation? Which (technical) tools and solutions enable effective collaboration over distance? Where do (new) obstacles arise and challenges become visible that can make fair access and participation opportunities more difficult?
