GUCCI – “Gender Into Urban Climate Change Initiative Conference”

At today’s digital conference with almost a hundred participants from all over the world, recommendations for gender-equitable urban climate protection measures were exchanged. The aim of GUCCI is to enable women’s organizations and civil society groups to work both for an ambitious climate policy and for the integration of social and gender-specific aspects.

How important it is to integrate gender as a cross-cutting issue in urban climate policy was shown (“Put it in the middle of the cake!” – Dorah Marema, South African local government). The role of civil society in good cooperation with state institutions was emphasised.

The experts from India, South Africa, Indonesia and Mexico presented the GAMMA method (Gender Assessment and Monitoring and Adaptation methodology) as an approach that can be used in many different contexts and is relatively easy to implement. The overall results and recommendations of the project were presented.

Many thanks to the organizers, the wonderful Gender CC team and partners: Gotelind Alber, Sarah Louis Montgomery and Farina Hoffmann – there is a lot to think about!

The conference was moderated by Dr. Claudia Neusüß, compassorange.
